VC++ 2008 Redistributables now included

The VC++ 2008 Reditributable libraries are now included with the latest ScriptENGINE Runtime Setup program (v3.19). This latest version is in final testing and will be uploaded to the Capricorn 76 website shortly.

VC++ 2008 Redistributables required to support the ScriptENGINE Runtime

The ScriptENGINE Runtime requires the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86). This package is available for free from Microsoft and installs shared libraries (DLLs) on the host computer.

This package is often necessary with earlier versions of Windows XP that have yet installed the required DLLS.

If the package has not been installed on the host computer, the user will see one of the following errors:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." OR
"The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect."

Building GUI Applications with wxWidgets

Have you ever wanted to build GUI applications using only script-code? Without using any compilers? With the upcoming release of the ScriptENGINE: 3D Engine v3.10 you can.

We've done all the hard work for you by building the wxWidgets source-code and making a simple installer that copies the DLLs into the ScriptENGINE 2010 Runtime. All you have to do is download the installer, run the setup.exe program and voila! The ScriptENGINE can then run scripts that use wxLua interfaces. We've also included examples and doco in the download.

Please note that the wxLua/wxWidgets packages are not supported by Capricorn 76. They are third-party libraries and we recommend users visit their respective websites for support and further information.

ScriptENGINE Mac OS X In Development

We're in the early stages of bringing our software to the Mac OS X! Our ScriptENGINE: 3D Engine Runtime will then be available for both the Windows and the Macintosh Operating Systems. We're also considering a Runtime for the iPhone, but customer requirements will determine our scheduling priorities. We'll keep you posted with what's happening with the Mac OS X development into the future.

Firefox Extensions for the ScriptENGINE 2010: 3D Engine

We're currently building a Browser plugin for the ScriptENGINE: 3D Engine. The plugin works with browsers supporting the NPAPI (Netscape Plugin) Programming Interface, like Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome.

The plugin will allow the ScriptENGINE to operate directly inside a browser. Also hoping to include a JavaScript interface to the ScriptENGINE so that it can be controlled directly from the browser's client code.

This is currently a low-priority background task but we expect it to gain momentum as we support the SimulAIt Product Development. Intelligent Software Development specialses in behavioural simulation and modelling using Agent-Based technologies.

At present, we've managed to create DLL binaries to initialise and control the ScriptENGINE, but there's still more required before we can make a public release. We'll keep you posted on our progress.

We have released a Free Version of our new product, the ScriptENGINE 2010: 3D Engine, as part of our brand new licensing model. The Free Version can be used without obligation or time limitations.

ScriptENGINE 2010 Prerelease

We're currently coming out the end of a very heavy development cycle that has upgraded the ScriptENGINE 2010:3D Engine to it's latest version 3.x. It's currently under test, and we have released a Free Version on our website to tie in with our new licensing model.

The major changes include:

Upgrading the Lua interpreter from 5.0 to 5.1 - a significant upgrade,
Upgrading the Irrlicht graphics driver used by the ScriptENGINE to 1.5.x,
Publishing C++ static libraries and headers (Professional Package Only) for all the ScriptENGINE components. These can be intergrated into your VC++ projects to build applications that interface directly with the ScriptENGINE in C++,
Migrating the old ScriptENGINE extensions to the new Lua package framework. Also added a lot of new Lua modules in the ScriptENGINE Runtime distribution. The new Lua modules include SQL for databasing, TCP & UDP sockets for networking (including FTP, HTTP, POP3 & other protocols), ZIP file management, Threading, COM, Cryptography, AVI movie readers and more. the new Lua modules are loaded into the ScriptENGINE using the require("module_name") function,
Updating the demos, tutorials and documentation,
